Our Five Step Method Leading to a Diamond of Remarkable Quality
As soon as our experienced staff returns from a buying trip, they review each rough diamond individually and decide a plan of action that will maximize its magnificence. Thus the polishing process begins. It is during this process that the shape and size of each diamond is determined. First, “windows” are polished on the girdles of the rough crystals in order to locate any flaws, stones or knots. Then the designer marks the stone to indicate where it should be cut.
Larger rough stones are often sawed to create several pieces. The stones are sawed to the measurements of the designer. The Sawer tends a bank of machines and keeps a close watch on the stones being sawed, examining each of them carefully through a lens throughout the entire procedure.
These sawed pieces, or small whole ones, are then placed into a “Bruting” machine, created specifically to shape each stone into a circular outline, removing the edges of the original rough diamond.
The diamond now enters the final cutting phase. Our team consists of highly skilled diamond cutters and polishers who will “block” and “brillianteer” each diamond. Blocking is the art of setting forth the main 8 facets on the the crown and pavilion of a diamond. Brillianteering is the process by which the remaining facets and the star facets of the crown emerge, revealing the diamond’s fire and brilliance. It is during this process that a diamond’s shape is determined.
Once polished, cleaned and evaluated, the diamond is ready for certification by a reputable lab. Each stone is evaluated for cut, color and clarity, carat weight is determined, and the diamond is certified.
